Nexus – Impromptus jongler

Nexus, intersection, improvisation, spontaneity. Appearing, meeting, interacting. Leaving, disappearing and longing for the next reunion.

Isaline and Yu-Yin study their object carefully: every combination between the balls, the string and the two sticks. As they juggle together, they carefully observe the rhythm, patterns and movement that the juggling sequences create. They experience and learn about different relationships that arise naturally. Through the juggling movement, they have recognized the gestures of daily life – encounters, greetings, separations – that have developed naturally depending on culture and circumstances.

Together they challenge the juggling objects that were created by default for juggling by a single person. They retool their props, research and write juggling sequences that two jugglers need to be complete.

Artist in Focus

Artist in Focus is a platform for up-and-coming circus artists during the ZirQus Festival. The selected artists develop a short piece during a 1-2 week residency at the Zirkusquartier and present it as part of the festival program.

Isaline et Yu-Yin

Isaline Hugonnet is a juggler from Switzerland. Yu-yin Lin comes from Taiwan and specializes in diabolo. The duo focuses on exploring the fusion of the two juggling objects. It is not only about holding each of their objects in their own hands, but also about the need for two artists to juggle with different combinations of balls, diabolos, strings, sticks and the bodies of the two jugglers.
They met in 2018 and enrolled in the French National Circus School in 2020. The duo formed during their training and concluded it with a joint project, with the desire to continue their journey together. With multicultural backgrounds, they are eager to share their cultures with each other’s environment and are working to expand the network internationally, focusing on the connection between Asia and Europe.
