Co-productions
Production, rehearsals, support
Thanks to the 6-year funding (Konzeptförderung) from the City of Zurich, the Zirkusquartier is able to co-produce three productions each year, one of which is by Zirkus Chnopf.
In addition to contributing to the production budget, we provide advice and support and provide space for research and rehearsals. Usually co-productions have there premiere at Zirkusquartier.
Co-productions
Artists who are based in Switzerland or have a strong connection to the Zirkusquartier are eligible to apply for a co-production at the Zirkusquartier. The Zirkusquartier offers two different co-production formats: the regular co-production for artists and groups who already have production experience, and the Start-Up co-production for artists and groups who would like to create their first full-length production.
There are two application deadlines per year: June 15 and December 15. On each occasion, either a regular co-production or a start-up co-production is selected. In addition to Zirkus Chnopf, we can support two co-productions per year and are therefore very selective. Co-productions require a longer lead time than guest performances or residencies. It takes approximately 1.5 years from the application to the premiere of a co-production.
The next application deadline is December 15 2026, with the premiere in spring/summer 2028.
It is possible to arrange a meeting with Nik and Charlotte before applying to talk about a possible co-production.
Regular co-production
A standard co-production includes:
- A financial contribution to the co-production
- Rehearsal rooms for 3-5 weeks at the ZQ
For an application we need:
- A dossier with project description, timetable, ideas for diffusion, possible partners and residencies and biographies of the team (maximum 10 pages)
- A short explanation of your connection to Zirkusquartier and your motivation to do a co-production with Zirkusquartier (maximum 1 page)
- A draft of your production budget
- If available, sketches, inspirational photos, or videos
Start-up co-production
A startup co-production includes:
- A financial contribution to the co-production
- Rehearsal rooms for 3-5 weeks at the ZQ
- Support and technical hours for the development of a lighting concept
- Support with dossier work
- Dramaturgical consulting
For an application we need:
- A project description with timetable and biographies of the team (maximum 5 pages)
- A short explanation of your motivation to do a start-up co-production at Zirkusquartier (maximum 1 page)
- If available, sketches, inspirational photos, or videos
