85 people lie in the middle of Zurich and look up at the sky. Nothing is happening. Are they sleeping? Are they resting? Are they thinking? Are they getting ready for something? Are they acting?

Compagnie Trottvoir spreads out large mattress beds in Swiss city centers. It invites the audience to make themselves really comfortable and do nothing together. By pausing in the midst of hectic city life, the FLÄZEN performance creates a space of calm, community and intimacy. This is where performative reflection on doing nothing takes place: Who can afford to take breaks at all? What could happen if everyone who does nothing did something? Where does doing nothing become political? Is it even possible to do nothing?

The performance collective examines the political dimension of doing nothing and raises questions about social justice and privilege. It uses means from live radio plays, circus, theater and music.

FLÄZEN is a co-production of Zirkusquartier Zurich and celebrates its premiere at the ZirQus 2025 festival!

Compagnie Trottvoir

The Trottvoir Company is a collective that experiments with the languages of circus, theater, music, and performance. From 2012 to 2018, it developed engaging performances in public spaces to provide accessible entry points to the performing arts. In 2020 and 2023, the company created two productions for the theater. Trottvoir is interested in trying out interactive formats. The company addresses sociopolitical themes and surprises audiences with fresh and unconventional perspectives on our reality.
