At Wagenvarieté, the circus wagons become a stage and the various artists take the audience with music, artistry, juggling and physical theater into a variety of magical worlds. Each evening there are four short pieces in four different circus wagons.

This year in Joyeux non-anniversaire, the audience is invited to a bizarre birthday party of a special kind and the duo Inalto Mare perform in J’ai raté le train, Je prends l’éléphant a humorous dialog between hand balancing, juggling, contortion and lots of theatrical play. Praeludium in G invites you to a prestigious concert of percussion literature: two classical musicians bring hot grooves from the orchestra pit directly into the circus wagon. Elegant and clownish, they stumble over concert conventions. With Reverb , Companie Terratuliua presents a manifesto of aerial artistry and takes the audience with all their senses on a sensory journey.
On the second weekend, Carola Kärcher creates a magical shadow play between light and canvas: A Shadow from Paris tells a story about the art of transformation and the courage to jump over one’s own shadow.

The moderation and magic duo Migi(Variété Triché) & Jamil(Zauberart) will guide you through the evening with little magic tricks: the audience moves from show to show – from circus wagon to circus wagon. Soup, sweet and savory crêpes from Crêperie Hirschenplatz and hot drinks from the bar are available between the shows.

Let yourself be taken away into a magical atmosphere and enjoy short pieces from various disciplines on the smallest of stages!

Late afternoon, two people at a table. Garlands, balloons, bright colors. They’re sitting in the same position, it’s their birthday and you’ve been invited.
Come in, but watch where you put your feet because it’s a bit messy… Make yourself comfortable. Once the candles are blown out, you can have a piece of cake!
The two people will eat and breathe at the same time. They will dance and open their presents at the same time. They will stand up at the same time and say the same words – but that’s normal, that’s how they are!

Praeludium in G

Sämi Messerli & Simon Huggler
Drums & Physical theater

From the orchestra pit straight into the circus wagon. Two classical musicians invite you to a prestigious concert of percussion literature. All they have with them is a snare drum, two chairs, two pairs of drumsticks and their agile bodies in a rigid orchestral costume. Playing from the drum, they work their way to the floor, over the walls to the ceiling, from the ceiling to their bodies and those of the audience in order to create an orchestra wagon instead of an orchestra pit. With hot grooves and serious ecstasy, they elegantly and clownishly stumble over the concert conventions that apply to performers and spectators.

Reverb

Terratuliua – Physical Theatre Company
Aerial hoop & Physical theater

Reverb is a manifesto of aerial artistry combining sound effects, aerial acrobatics and light, an immersion of the public on a sensorial trip. Beats, spins and silence guide the audience through the show as a common thread.
The show intends to create a space that situates the audience in a different setting out of the reality, a small space where the main actor can contortion, fly and play with the sounds and textures of the place. The audience is supposed to be stimulates with all the senses.

J’ai raté le train, je prends l’éléphant

Inalto Mare
Juggling & Handstand

“J’ai raté le train, Je prends l’éléphant” (I missed the train, I’ll take the elephant) is a creation devised and performed by a fearsome and terrifying ball juggler and a hand balancer. It is a creation that appeals to everyone and excludes no one. It is a clownish dialog between hand balancing, juggling, contortion and a lot of theatrical play. Created, performed and directed by the circus duo Inalto Mare by Valentina Melotti and Cristobal Bascur.

Ein Schatten von Paris

Carola Kärcher
Hand Shadow Theater

Photo: Anna Arnold

The creation of magical moments between light and canvas – this is how Carola Kärcher understands the art of hand shadow play. And with the simplest of means. The ability to work with hands alone is both a great source of inspiration and a challenge. Hand shadow theater is about focusing on the essentials, ultimately focusing on what is really necessary. The result is a mixture of magical shadow play, tenderness, comedy and philosophical depth, integrated into a story that is not only created on the screen, but also in the minds and hearts of the audience: A shadow from Paris tells a story about magic, the art of transformation and the courage to jump over one’s own shadow.
