Flip, kick, twist—tricking combines martial arts, gymnastics, and breakdancing into an explosive form of movement. People often ask themselves, “I want to be able to do that too—but how do I get started?”
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to take your first steps into the world of tricking.
- You’ll learn how to approach your first flips and tricks safely and with good body awareness, and how to use mats to overcome your fear without putting yourself in danger.
- Together, we’ll work on kicks and elements from breakdancing and capoeira as the foundation for creative transitions. This way, you can gradually develop your very own style.
Particular emphasis is placed on body awareness, a technically clean and body-friendly approach, and—of course—the joy of movement.

Workshop-leadership
Ihor Yakymenko
Ihor Yakymenko is a multidisciplinary artist with roots in Ukraine. He grew up in Berlin in an artistically diverse environment and graduated from the Berlin State School of Acrobatics after five years of ballet training and five years of acrobatics training. Since then, he has been performing as a professional acrobat on stages around the world.
His highlights include festivals such as the Young Stage Circus Festival in Basel, as well as winning the Tuttlinger Krähe cabaret competition with his trio, Tridiculous. In addition to classical circus arts, Ihor also explores urban movement styles such as breakdancing, capoeira, and tricking. He sees movement as a universal language that is understood all over the world and connects people.
Workshop information
- Registration by link, e-mail or telephone is binding.
- Payment for the workshop is due upon receipt of the invoice, which we will send you by email after the workshop is over.
- If a registration is canceled up to 10 days before the workshop, 50% of the fee will be charged. If canceled later than that, the participant must pay the full cost.
- The right to participate in the booked workshop is personal and non-transferable.
- Insurance is the responsibility of the participant. An emergency contact must be given when registering.
- If there are not enough participants, the workshop generally cannot take place. Registered participants will be notified by email of any cancellation no later than 2 days before the workshop.
- Participants adhere to the house rules of the Zirkusquartier. The instructions of the ZQ team and the course leaders must be followed.
