The Zirkusquartier is Zurich’s production, performance, training, and learning center for contemporary circus and the home of the Zirkus Chnopf.
With its diverse program of shows, workshops, and courses, Zirkusquartier invites visitors of all ages to explore the many facets of circus and get involved themselves. It also offers a wide range of opportunities and resources for professional circus artists.
The Zirkusquartier is a vibrant meeting place for children, teenagers, and adults; for professionals and hobbyists; for visitors and circus artists; and, above all, for the local community. It offers a welcoming space to learn, train, perform, and connect.
Founded in 2016 by Zirkus Chnopf, the Zirkusquartier continues to serve as the company’s creative home, where new productions are developed and rehearsed.
10 Years of Zirkusquartier
We’re celebrating our anniversary—with shows, DJs, and a festive circus night full of surprises!
The Zirkusquartier was established in 2016 as the winter home of the Zirkus Chnopf, and over the past 10 years it has evolved into a centre for contemporary circus with a wide range of offerings.
Let’s celebrate at the Nuit du Cirque! There will be two circus shows, drinks from the bar, and wraps from Zirkus Chnopf. On Saturday night, DJ sets ranging from baile to techno will make the Güterbahnhof shake, and circus surprises—from burlesque to clownesque, from spectacular to sentimental—will make the night shine.

The Grannies
Two older women talk about their wild and profound lives. They bring their skills back to the stage, perform acrobatic tricks and use their walking sticks creatively for much more than just their walking aids.
An interactive performance that appeals to people of all ages: the two old ladies manage to surprise passers-by, cause amusing irritation and interrupt the rhythm of everyday life. They flirt, they provoke, they are shameless – but in the end they always put a smile on the faces of the audience. The older women are portrayed in a cheeky, wild way as they enjoy the benefits of being old.
Bill and Fred Productions
Elysia Mc Mullen (IRE) and Luisa Schmitz (CH) met during their dance training at the FHK in Tilburg (NL), where they graduated with a BA in Dance and Choreography in 2016. After graduating, both pursued their own paths, choreographing their own works and collaborating with other companies in the dance and circus field. The duo reunited and founded their company Bill and Fred Productions in 2020.
Bill and Fred are an all-female clown duo who combine disciplines such as dance, clowning, circus and theater and have developed their own unique style of clowning. Using improvisation, they found a complex language of gestures and movements. Her work is based on this humorous language of movement, which focuses on the clownish expression of dance. In their abstract style, they take their audience on a journey of discovery and make them laugh.
The duo brings a high degree of precision to their movements, which is the result of years of experience in improvisation, clowning and dance. Together they are breaking new artistic ground and taking professional dance and clowning to a new level. They have been touring internationally with their production “Adventures” since 2021. From 2022, they will go on tour with their second production “The Grannies”.
