Space for contemporary circus
The Zirkusquartier is Zurich’s production, performance, training, and learning center for contemporary circus and the home of the Zirkus Chnopf.
With its diverse program of shows, workshops, and courses, Zirkusquartier invites visitors of all ages to explore the many facets of circus and get involved themselves. It also offers a wide range of opportunities and resources for professional circus artists.
The Zirkusquartier is a vibrant meeting place for children, teenagers, and adults; for professionals and hobbyists; for visitors and circus artists; and, above all, for the local community. It offers a welcoming space to learn, train, perform, and connect.
Founded in 2016 by Zirkus Chnopf, the Zirkusquartier continues to serve as the company’s creative home, where new productions are developed and rehearsed.

We’re celebrating our anniversary—with shows, DJs, and a festive circus night full of surprises!
The Zirkusquartier was established in 2016 as the winter home of the Zirkus Chnopf, and over the past 10 years it has evolved into a centre for contemporary circus with a wide range of offerings.
Let’s celebrate at the Nuit du Cirque! There will be two circus shows, drinks from the bar, and wraps from Zirkus Chnopf. On Saturday night, DJ sets ranging from baile to techno will make the Güterbahnhof shake, and circus surprises—from burlesque to clownesque, from spectacular to sentimental—will make the night shine.

We’re celebrating with shows, DJs, and a festive circus night full of surprises! There will be two circus shows: “Sandscapes” by Ueli Hirzel and “DARK GLOWING” by Laurence Felber, Silvan Strübel, and Caroline Schenk. Drinks from the bar, wraps from the Zirkus Chnopf food stand, and a festive circus night with a party and circus-inspired surprises round off the anniversary weekend. On Saturday evening, DJ sets ranging from baile to techno will make the Güterbahnhof shake, while circus surprises—from burlesque to clownesque, from spectacular to sentimental—will make the night shine.

From a Winter Quarters to a Center for Contemporary Circus
The Zirkusquartier was established in 2016 at the initiative of Zirkus Chnopf, serving as a production venue in spring and a home during the winter months. Over the past ten years, the Zirkusquartier has developed significantly — from a small venue offering a few courses and occasional open stages into a centre for contemporary circus in Switzerland and internationally.
Its diverse program of shows, workshops, and courses attracts a broad audience, while its production and training facilities support the ongoing development of contemporary circus in Switzerland.
Through its annual co-production with Zirkus Chnopf, the Zirkusquartier has built, nurtured, and developed a strong partnership over more than ten years — one that is intended to continue and grow over the next decade.
Change has been a constant companion of the Zirkusquartier over the past ten years: the move from the former Koch Areal to the Güterbahnhof, securing six-year programme funding from the City of Zurich, and now planning for the new building in the Koch Quarter, scheduled to open in 2027, have kept us on our toes. At the same time, these changes have made the Zirkusquartier a wonderfully dynamic and vibrant place.
