Work-in-Progress: Alma Gruber – Artist in Focus

The art of standing on your hands is often about creating unusual and beautiful shapes with your body. Images. The focus is on the shape of the body, the legs, the back.
Alma Gruber wants to focus on the act of turning over and explore this effect, rhythmically or visually or philosophically or soap-bottle-like.
Clothes are turned inside out countless times during production. The moon turns and turns and never stops turning, but we never see its other side. Gugelhupfs also turn around or physical laws or hierarchies or the idea of reality and fiction.
The top and bottom are turned around and then? What does it mean to be the other way around? When I confuse up and down, lose my sense of space and time, feel dizzy and nauseous.

Do soap bubbles fly more freely?

Double Bill

Artist in Focus: Alma Gruber & Mano Vos
Fri Sept 5 8:45 – 9:30 pm

The Artist in Focus format offers a platform to circus artists at the beginning of their career. The selected artists do a 1-2 week residency and show a work-in-progress as part of the festival program. There are two artists in focus at this year’s ZirQus festival : Mano Vos and Alma Gruber.

Company

Alma Gruber

Alma Gruber grew up in Zurich and has always dreamed of being in the circus. Because all the children’s courses were fully booked, she jumped around on the sofa until her springs peeked out. After school, she went to Cirque Intense in Germany. Then to the École de Cirque de Lyon via Cirko Vertigo in Turin. Here, in a joyful confusion of the arts, she created her first projects on her hands.
