Julian Vogel creates his own circus. He challenges the audience’s intuition. We long for the bang of bursting ceramics, while at the same time hoping to preserve the fragile. A paradoxical desire that manifests itself in an endless drum roll, in a bicycle that defies all habit, in plates that dance on the finest rods and in a person on roller skates searching for balance. In the middle, a calm, spinning ceramic ball.

If you open yourself up to the silence that hides behind the noise, new perspectives open up. Suddenly we hear things we were deaf to. Ceramic Circus is a festive invitation to question the obvious and transform the ordinary into the magical.

The piece is a contemporary reference to traditional circus, appropriating its qualities of making the seemingly impossible possible, building and breaking expectations, celebrating illusion and magic in newly created worlds. An ephemeral poetic gesture that lingers in the memory.

Note:
There are loud noises in this piece.
